EARLY PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK
2002-2007

TRINE Series - Experiments with alternative processes such as painting with light exposure techniques and liquid emulsion on glass with gold leafing. Images were captured with large format film cameras and medium format film cameras. These images were inspired by Victorian era spirit photography and using printing and exposure techniques to create photographic fictions. These images play with the notion of photography as “truthful” and reveal it to be as much of a magic trick as any type of recording of truth.

VARIOUS - A selection of images from my early years of learning to see light while photographing the people and places in my surroundings. All images were captured with various 35mm, medium format, and large format film cameras. These early images are indicative of my formative years of learning to see light and to isolate and record the “decisive moment.” My early influences were photographers such as Sally Mann, Robert Frank, and Imogen Cunningham. All images were printed on fiber based papers and never printed larger than 8x10 inches to create very intimate experiences with the images. My early work was very concerned with formality, the decisive moment, studies of light, and a meticulous darkroom printing practice.
